Sadly, Malawi had a very rough start to 2023, and even rougher end of year. They experienced the worst outbreak of Cholera in the history of the country - followed by Cyclone Freddy, the largest cyclone to ever hit the region. We worked with local partners to assist with both disasters - from educating people on the risks of cholera and supplying preventative measures like soap and chlorine to providing access to clean water in areas that were affected by the storm.
In November, the Malawi Kwacha was devalued by 44% - causing an immediate reaction to an increase in cost of goods & services to over 40%.
People who were already just getting by and just barely surviving will sadly be most impacted.
In 2023, we completed 40 projects. Our water projects benefited 56,625 people this year.
We drilled 28 new boreholes, repaired 7 water projects (installed by other NGOs), held menstrual hygiene seminars for 1300 students (boys & girls!), and sponsored 3 district-wide Cholera Educational outreach programs that impacted over 150,000 people with 200+ workshops and trainings held.
Between our water projects, menstrual hygiene education, and district-wide education campaign - more than 210,000 people were impacted by our work in 2023!
We are especially proud to be a part of 2 solar irrigation projects - which includes an all-female group of farmers at the largest refugee camp in the country!
As always, none of this impact is possible without YOU! THANK YOU.
