There are many methods & solutions to solving the water crisis.
We are currently focusing on just one...
We are currently focusing on just one...
drilling brand new hand pump water wells (aka boreholes) and/or repairing old malfunctioning ones.
Solar projects average just $20,000, and can provide even more water to more people - extending taps to multiple locations throughout a community, school or hospital.
We employ local drilling teams that consist of 8 men.
They can be on the road and living out of their drilling rigs for up to a month at a time.

This is not a handout.
Every project is locally-led and community-based.

The community/school must agree to help with manual labor, supply materials (bricks, sand, quarry stone, etc), build protective barriers, form water committees, and handle future maintenance.
We never ask communities to contribute monetarily to the projects.
Water committees are in charge of overseeing that each household contributes a small amount towards the repair/maintenance fund.

There is no better party then a community that is celebrating a new borehole

JOY is in the journey to clean water
We personally assess every location before committing to a project.

We use both traditional surveying methods, as well as Malawian practices to find underground water.
The “bottle man” has an 85% success rate... the bottle starts to shake when there’s water below. |
Community involvement is key to the success of each project.
|
A hardworking team of local drillers do the heavy lifting to provide people access to clean water.
In addition to providing communities with clean water, we provide employment for these men. |
Imagine going from collecting water from a river or hand-dug hole, to a brand new borehole that supplies clean drinking water!
|
The “wireman” is another form of locating underground water. As he walks, the wires will spread apart...which means there’s groundwater below!
He also has a nearly 85% success rate. |
