to clean water
To date, we have completed 70 water projects and have helped 137,707 people in Malawi gain access to clean water.
We drill new boreholes, repair broken pumps, install solar water systems, manufacture tank stands, supply water tanks, and distribute biosand filters.
Our projects can be found in 38 schools, 23 villages, 6 new waters projects inside 5 very deserving hospitals, 3 water points added within Dzaleka Refugee Camp, and 30 biosand filters have been distributed to families in need. We've also manufactured steel tank stands and added 50,000 liters of backup water tanks in schools and hospitals.
Three of these projects are thanks to innovative solar systems.
Notable Projects:
1. Implemented a solar water system at the only
state-of-the-art children's hospital, built by Madonna in 2017.
2. Installed 3 new water points within Dzaleka Refugee Camp, the largerst refugee camp in the country and home to 38,000 refugees.
3. Implemented a backup water system at QECH, the largest hospital in Malawi. Nearly 12,000 babies are born at QECH each year, and yet the hospital averages
6hrs a day without water! We installed a 20,000liter backup water system, to ensure that the 24,000 moms and babies in the Maternity Wing and Nursery experience childbirth with access to clean water.
None of what we do is possible without the generosity of people and partners like YOU.

ALINAFE HOSPITAL
NKHOTAKOTA 📍 -13.387753 lat, 34.243980 long We drilled a new borehole, manufactured a brand new tank stand, supplied 2 new tanks that hold 10,000ltrs of water, and installed a solar pump and panels to this 74-bed hospital that serves 32,076 people each year! This project was made possible thanks to our 6th impactful collaboration with our good friends at Zam Zam! Total patients served 32,076 (OPD 13,632, Inpatient 1,884, newborn babies 720, antenatal 3,360, under five mobile & clinic 12,480) |
KAYELEKA SCHOOL
KASUNGU 📍 -12.923463 lat, 33.573003 long This school received a new innovative solar water system. It is the very first of its kind in Malawi, and our first collaboration with the incredible, BuildOn organization. Taps were installed in the community, teacher housing, food program area, within the school campus, a handwashing tap for the boys bathroom, a sink in the girls bathroom, and a private area for older girls - complete with running water. This project benefits the entire community - not just the school. Over 1,000 people attended the celebration to give thanks for their new school block and running water. It was pure joy! 868 students served (does not include the surrounding community) |
QUEEN ELIZABETH CENTRAL HOSPITAL - NURSERY
BLANTYRE 📍 -15.801625 lat, 35.022634 long Thanks to our partnership with Raising Malawi, when we installed the backup system for the Maternity Wing at QECH, we were also able to implement a separate system for the Nursery. The 5,000 liter backup system ensures that the most vulnerable babies start life with access to consistent, clean water. Both QECH water systems include custom-made tank stands manufactured specifically for each project. |
QUEEN ELIZABETH CENTRAL HOSPITAL - MATERNITY WING
BLANTYRE 📍-15.802287 lat, 35.022095 long One of the largest hospitals in the country struggles with inconsistent water supply - going days without water. We installed a 15,000ltr back up water system and supplied 21 new hygiene taps and new plumbing for the Maternity Wing at QECH, so the approximately 12,000 babies that are born here each year, will never have to experience childbirth without access to clean water. 24,000 impacted (12,000 babies and their 12,000 moms) |
MULUNGUZI SCHOOL
ZOMBA 📍-15.394383 lat, 35.369937 long This grateful school received a brand new borehole thanks to a 6 year-old boy from Los Angeles. In honor of his birthday, Declan asked people to help him build a well for a school in need in Malawi...in lieu of gifts. He is proof that you are never too you to make a difference in the lives of others. Cheers to Declan! 1,406 students served |
SUKASUKA VILLAGE
NTCHEU 📍-14.648863 lat, 34.644625 long This sweet community was previously walking a long distance to their previous water source. But, best of all, this is the home village to one of our drillers. So many of the drilling team work to provide clean water for others, and yet their families do not even have a borehole. 325 households in the surrounding area (approximately 1625 people impacted) |
MUA HOSPITAL
DEDZA 📍-14.281102 lat, 34.512909 long Drilled a brand new borehole and supplied an electric pump for this 140-bed hospital that serves 24,620 patients each year and delivers an average of 160 babies each month. Their old borehole was drilled incorrectly and the old pump broke. This well-run hospital has a capacity of 120,000 ltrs of water tanks. Total patients served 24,620 (OPD 17,000, Admissions 6,000, ART 1600, Palliative Care 20, and approximately 1,920 babies delivered each year. |
TIYENDE PAMODZI GIRLS SCHOOL
DEDZA 📍-14.423567 lat, 34.527629 long This project is in the very early stages of what will soon be an innovative new all girls secondary school. Under that cement block is the borehole that was recently drilled. In the coming months construction will begin and the borehole will be fitted with a handpump. Later the pump will be replaced with a solar pump/system for the school. Proud to be a small part of this very special school and partner with the founders. More information and total impact numbers will be available when the school opens in 2020. |
MULUNDU SCHOOL
MULANJE 📍-15.843079 lat, 35.412699 long The good news is this borehole will be a tremendous relief in supplying water to be used for sanitation, hygiene and convenience on the school campus. The bad news is the water here (and in the entire surrounding area) is salty. We could have aborted the project all together; however, the community begged us to move forward with adding the pump - even though we knew the taste of water would not be to their satisfaction. They expressed immense gratitude that we “did our best to help them.” 597 students served |
THAWALE SCHOOL
MULANJE 📍-16.069218 lat, 35.521751 long Once again, this is a school that has taps on campus. However, as is frequently the case, they have many days when the taps are completely dry. We drilled a new borehole for them within the school boundaries. Consistent water means a consistent food program for our partner Mary’s Meals. 1,968 students served |
CHANUNKHA SCHOOL
MULANJE 📍-16.043678 lat, 35.58945 long Installed a new 5,000ltr tank for this primary school. This school has taps provided by the local tea estates; however, the water flow is inconsistent. During rainy season the school can go many days without water due to dry taps. This tank assures that water is always flowing. 1,625 students served |
MATELEZI VILLAGE
NKHOTAKOTA 📍-12.700153 lat, 34.138919 long Our first completed project thanks to a new partnership with Africa Parks. As they fence off the national park to keep animals in, it fences communities like this off from their current water supplies of streams and rivers. This community now has a new borehole thanks to Wendie Manon who generously sponsored this project. 192 households - approximately 960 people impacted |
MBONGONZI SECONDARY SCHOOL
KASUNGU 📍-12.997795 lat, 33.854439 long Our second solar project with BuildOn, and their first ever secondary school build. Today this is a handpump project, but come 2020 we will implement the next phase - an innovative solar system that will supply water to the school, teacher housing and the surrounding community. Our friends at Raising Malawi and In A Perfect World are building this incredible school. More information and total impact numbers will be available when the school opens next year. |
NANKUMBA VILLAGE
DEDZA 📍-14.294530 lat, 34.531446 long This village is home to Lazarus, a talented rising star in the music industry who uses his voice to advocate for the rights of people living with albinism. A large community with only one borehole that was overcrowded. When the only water source was malfunctioning they would resort to getting their water from the river. 179 households (approximately 895 people) |
MPINJI SCHOOL
THYOLO 📍 -16.06277 lat, 35.128173 long This school had not 1, but 2 failed water sources on campus...a merry-go-round that kids were expected to use to pump the water (it broke), and a tap that hadn’t produced water in over a week. They were using a borehole at the local church, which charged them .50cents per month to use. This project was generously donated by The Rotary Club of Beverly Hills. 1,753 students served |
LUCHANZA SCHOOL
THYOLO 📍 -16.014239 lat, 35.30877 long This school was sharing their water source with the local community, BUT it was a very long walk - close to 1km through a field to access the local borehole. Now, thanks to a generous CSR program at Houlihan Lokey, the school now has a brand new borehole right on campus. It was a huge celebration! 824 students served |
NAMING’AZI SCHOOL
ZOMBA 📍 -15.346223 lat, 35.371344 long Project made possible by a very special 11 year old boy who asked that in lieu of birthday gifts this year, people help him sponsor a water project in Malawi. This is Greyson’s school, and the students were filled with gratitude! This is also a lesson for everyone...you are never too young to make a difference in the lives of others. 687 students impacted |
SONGANI SCHOOL
ZOMBA 📍 -15.317441 lat, 35.390195 long The largest school we have ever worked, and one of so many we visit with inconsistent taps. On the day we first assessed this school, no water had been coming from the tap for days. There is a community borehole nearby, but the school was not allowed to use it. New borehole is located on campus, and makes for a necessary additional water source and backup for such a large school. Generously donated by the Bruce and Jina Veaco Foundation. 3635 students impacted |
MOLOGENI VILLAGE
CHIKWAWA Biosand Filter Distribution 📍 -16.1489899 lat, 34.758653 long Thanks to a partnership with Malawi Water Project, 30 families, just like this one, received a Formidable Joy biosand filter in their home. This year, we have already distributed 20 filters to families in the surrounding villages in and around Mologeni 142 people in 20 families impacted |
MBULU VILLAGE
LILONGWE 📍 -14.360022 lat, 34.582764 long This project was generously donated by The Rotary Club of Beverly Hills. The village was formerly using a hand-dug well with a hand-pump, so it gave the illusion of being a drilled borehole, but the depth was only 18 meters. During the rainy season the water was full of dirt. Their new water source was drilled to 45 meters. 160 households served - approximately 800 people |
MANYAMBA VILLAGE
NKHOTAKOTA 📍-13.225159 lat, 34.321788 long This project was donated by Lindsey Alley - in honor of his daughter, Caroline. The village was so happy with their new borehole, we were given one of their goats as a token of gratitude. - Zikomo Kwambiri, Lindsey! 106 households served - approximately 530 people |
TONGOLE 2 VILLAGE
NKHOTAKOTA 📍-13.106264 lat, 34.285104 long Formerly collecting water from both the river and hand-dug holes in the ground. This small community of only 33 families (approximately 165 people) now has access to clean drinking water, thanks to the generosity of our partner Zam Zam Water. |
AIRBASE SCHOOL
Lilongwe 📍 -13.987992 lat, 33.766143 long A 5,000 ltr water tank was installed at this primary school. They have water available to them for free from the city. however, it is inconsistent (sometimes off for several days in a row). This tank assures that the school will always have running water. 937 students impacted |
